This year, the Accokeek Foundation welcomed 16 new piglets to its herd of Ossabaw Island hogs. The two sows (females) came to the National Colonial Farm from Sylvanaqua Farm, and the boar (male) is on loan from George Washington’s Mount Vernon. A unique breed of pig, the Ossabaw hog is listed as critically endangered by the Livestock Conservancy, and less than 200 Ossabaws are registered in the US each year.
