Pic of the Week #7 – Crime and Punishment in Colonial Maryland

The stage is set, enter "Miss Nancy Marple Fletcher Drew" to solve this "who dunnit"

After nearly 2 months of learning about colonial Maryland history, writing scripts, rehearsing, and braving the hot “Dog Days of Summer”, the Museum Theatre interns gave a stellar performance that was both entertaining and educational.

This week’s pic features interns, Lindsey Mitchell as “Miss Nancy Marple Fletcher Drew” and Trey Thomas as “Mister Henry Waring Claggett” as they perform Murder on the Potomac.

Pic of the Week #6 – Harvesting Potatoes at the Ecosystem Farm

This week’s Pic comes to you from our beloved farmers at the Ecosystem Farm. Our farm crew is amazing and is always hard at work, ensuring that there is a variety of fresh produce for the CSA SHAREholders to enjoy each week, throughout the harvest season. Potato digging is certainly hard work, but they make it look like so much fun, don’t they?

Pic of the Week #5 – June 28

This week’s Pic of the Week photo was taken and sent to us by a frequent “visitor” to the farm. We absolutely love candid photos like this, you just never know what you may see when strolling around Piscataway Park. This little bugger has been caught, quite frequently, wadding in his “kiddie pool” by many and no matter how many times we’ve coerced him out of the water, he just keeps sneaking back in. Ah well, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

Pic of the Week #4 – June 14

If you haven’t yet met Edgar, then you are truly missing out! Edgar is our newest addition to the farm family and when he’s not feeling adventurous, you’ll find him relaxing and hanging about in the Museum Visitor Center and Gift Shop. Recently, Edgar took a trip down to Sandy Point Park to meet with thousands of school kids at the 2011 Maryland Green Schools Youth Summit: Celebrating Children in Nature. Needless to say, he stole the show and won their hearts (he certainly has won our hearts).

Can you think of a great caption to go along with the photo for this week’s Pic of the Week? The above photo was taken while following our friend, Edgar, around the site. We “found” him hanging out in the farmhouse on the National Colonial Farm. You’ll never know where you may find Edgar next!

We Take It, You Name It: Pic of the Week – May 17

A few weeks ago, we rolled out a Caption Contest for the photographs selected for Pic of the Week. Each week, staff members tour the site—sometimes to enjoy a beautiful day outside, other times to help with work on the National Colonial Farm, in the gardens, or on the Ecosystem Farm—often with cameras in hand, as you never know what you may see!

We share the best of the best with you. You, then, share with us your best idea for a caption. It’s that easy!

Let’s us know what you think the caption for this week’s Pic of Week should be.

Pic of the Week Caption Contest

One of our favorite things to do at the farm is to take photos — lots and lots of photos! From the barnyard and the colonial site to the river and the gardens and fields, the farm offers a lot of subjects for photography (or any art medium for that matter).

We often have such a good time thinking about fun and sometimes funny captions for many of the photographs that we thought, why should we have all the fun?

So, we ask you (our faithful followers) to join in on a Caption Contest.  Starting NOW, we’ll post a recently shot photo or “Pic” every other week for you to enjoy.  Fans can submit their best caption ideas to the Accokeek Foundation “panel”, which will review entries and select a winner. The winning caption will be posted in the following week’s eNewsletter.
