Be a ‘Friend of Accokeek’ by Becoming a Monthly Sustaining Member!

Supporting Accokeek Foundation can be even easier when you become a sustaining member! By joining our ‘Friends of Accokeek’ circle you can designate a monthly contribution to be charged to your debit or credit card account. Provide us with your preferred credit or debit card and we will process your charge accordingly. A record of your contribution will appear on your bank or credit card statement each month.

As a Friend of Accokeek, you increase the value of your gift by:

  • Providing the Accokeek Foundation with a stable source of monthly income to support historic preservation, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship as well as celebrating the cultural diversity of Southern Maryland.
  • Eliminating the cost — and the hassle — of monthly renewal letters and telemarketing reminders
  • Reducing the cost of processing contributions

It’s As Easy As 1 – 2 – 3

  1. Decide how much you want to contribute to the Accokeek Foundation each month. Because we try to cover our costs of credit card processing, please consider $10 or greater per month as the minimum amount, and elect a monthly payment in full-dollar increments. For example: $10, $11, $12, $20, $50, or $84 per month.
  2. Complete the online gift form, select “Become a ‘Friend of Accokeek’,” and designate your amount. Or you can call us during our office hours Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and sign up over the phone. You may select your preferred debit or major credit card.
  3. Sit back and relax. Once you’ve signed up, you never have to worry about renewing your membership. Each month your contribution will automatically be charged with a record of each transaction appearing on your bank or credit card statement. Your membership is automatically extended each year.

Be a Part of the Legacy

We are a place of transformation built on a legacy of vision.Be a Part of the Legacy and Continue the Vision of our Founders

A four-year old girl discovers why leaves change colors, a young farmer learns how to build a business in sustainable agriculture, a student sits in an 18th century farmhouse and touches history, an unemployed veteran finds respite by dangling a fishing line in the Potomac River–these are just a few of the transformative experiences visitors had at the Accokeek Foundation this year. As we celebrate the end of an exciting year marked by a successful change in leadership, we remain connected to our past and the people who led us here and look with hope to a future that includes the visionary support of people like you.

We think of the legacy of Frances Bolton, the remarkable congresswoman from Ohio who purchased and preserved this land more than 50 years ago. We think of our founders Henry Ferguson, Robert Ware Straus, and Charles Wagner and have an overwhelming sense of gratitude for their vision, wisdom, and persistence to preserve this land and George Washington’s view. We think of a long list of supporters and champions, from our friends at the National Park Service and in the halls of Congress to visionaries like the late Jean Wallace Douglas.

Together we are creating a new generation of stewards through the one-of-a-kind experience visitors have when they come here and reconnect with the land, the river, and that magical “sense of place” that a walk through Piscataway Park brings. The Foundation’s living, outdoor classroom experience connects people to their cultural past, present, and future–but only with your help!

Your year-end gift of $50, $100, or more will help us continue our mission of education, preservation, and stewardship. Every dollar of your contribution helps to steward this special place for future generations. Your support makes it possible for tens of thousands of visitors each year to enjoy the miles of trails that are habitat to wildlife and native plants, the acres of pastures that are “home” to our heritage animals, the personal experience with history at the National Colonial Farm, the river with its picturesque view of Mount Vernon (not to mention excellent fishing), and the fields where new farmers practice sustainable agriculture. Become a part of Frances Bolton’s vision.

Member Event: Summer Solstice Celebration

A Members Only Event**

Midsummer is the time when the sun reaches the peak of its power, the earth is green and holds the promise of a bountiful harvest.

A community is the mental and spiritual condition of knowing that the place is shared, and that the people who share the place define and limit the possibilities of each others lives.–Wendell Berry

On Saturday, June 21–the longest day–we’ll welcome in summer and the “promise of a bountiful harvest”, as we honor those who are an important part of the Accokeek Foundation “community”–our members and volunteers.

Join us for good food, music, and merriment! We’ll begin the evening with a guided “behind the scenes” tour of the Ecosystem Farm, followed by a splendid spread–prepared and catered by our very own Elaine McVinney–games, and entertainment.

RSVP by Wednesday, June 15 to outreach@accokeek.org or call 301.283.2113.
