About the Education Center
With support from foundations, corporations, state and federal government, and committed individual donors, the Accokeek Foundation constructed its Education Center in 2005. A model of environmentally friendly sustainable design–from its vegetated roof, wildlife habitat, and rain gardens, to rain barrels and recycled materials–this “green” building creates opportunities for conservation education and provides space for public programs including lectures, workshops, classes, community forums, and special events. These green features are just another way the Accokeek Foundation uses the physical environment (natural and human-made) as a living classroom.
