Catherine joined the Accokeek Foundation in 2010 as a volunteer in the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s inaugural Chesapeake Conservation Corp program–a program that provides career and leadership training for young people interested in environmental careers and Chesapeake Bay protection.
She has now joined the Foundation full-time as an integral part of its stewardship education program. As Stewardship Coordinator, Catherine Krikstan works to promote environmental stewardship to both children and adults through interpretation and educational programs and workshops. She graduated from St. Mary’s College before earning a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, where she spent a semester covering the Chesapeake Bay for the Capital News Service. She developed a green thumb—and a keen interest in garden insects—while working on an organic farm in Southern Maryland, which she now puts to good use in the Foundation’s Museum Garden.
